Solana had a close call on not finalizing blocks this week. A single provider's routing failure took enough validators offline to push the network within 4.5% of a pause in finality, but the chain never stopped producing blocks. The caps and diversification rules already in place worked as designed, but it did expose the fact that validators need to do a better job at failover.

🔥 Umbra v2

Umbra announced Umbra V2, a redesign that shifts the privacy protocol from a transfer tool into what it calls a sovereign private money system, coming this Q4.

V1 launched five months ago with mobile, web, browser extension, payroll, and SDK products. Usage, active deposits, and TVL grew across multiple major assets, which the team says proved demand for the product and shaped what V2 needed to fix.

V2's core is a trustless zero-knowledge shielded pool. Around it sits a decentralized network of independent nodes, each running inside a secure hardware enclave, that handles compliance and verifiability without concentrating trust in any single party. A built-in "escape hatch" is designed to keep user assets withdrawable at all times, and the system is built to stay legible to compliance requirements from the start.

Umbra says V2 moves transfers and swaps 10x to 15x faster than V1, putting speed in range of public onchain transactions. The protocol also moves from single-asset pools to multi-asset shielded pools, so deposits, yield, lending and borrowing, staking, swaps, payments, vested positions, treasury management, and cross-chain transfers can all run privately in one system instead of requiring separate integrations per asset.

For integrators, V2 adds "Zones," configurable rule sets that let each integration set its own compliance and behavior parameters, along with faster onboarding and per-partner custom pricing.

Umbra continues to lead the way in making privacy the default instead of an add-on feature. V2 makes it the base layer without switching into some special mode to get there.

📊 Stake Pools Research

Independent researcher Viktor shipped a full refresh of Solana Stake Pools Research, an open reference doc and companion dashboard that map how validators get delegation from 16+ Solana stake pools and programs, including Jito, JPool, SolBlaze, Marinade, The Vault Finance, Definity, and Phase.

The doc lays out each pool's delegation criteria, commission caps, review cadence, and API endpoints, then mirrors the same data live on a dashboard sortable by stake and epoch.

This refresh re-verified every section against onchain data instead of relying on what each pool's own docs claim, which surfaced real changes for 2026:

  • JPool now runs delegation through bonds and cohorts plus a new Council structure
  • SolBlaze added a Verified Validators track and an Alpenglow bonus
  • The Vault Finance now publishes live ratings directly on its own site.

Two new entries, Marinade Select and Layer33, were added outright. Dead links were purged and migrated APIs updated throughout.

For a validator, the practical use is to read a pool's criteria and commission terms in the doc, check its current live status and stake on the dashboard, then go straight to that pool's API or application process instead of tracking down 16 separate sources one at a time.

Validators trying to work out which stake pools they qualify for and how to reach them have been piecing this together pool by pool. This cuts that down to one doc.

🪙 Tokens Open Sourced

The Solana Foundation open sourced Tokens, the full codebase behind tokens.xyz, its canonical registry for verified assets on Solana. The repo went up on GitHub as an MIT-licensed monorepo, with an initial push on August 7 and a formal announcement on August 10.

💬
"We open sourced tokens. Fork and build something better." - Vibhu Norby, Solana Foundation

Tokens.xyz tracks roughly 300 assets across crypto, equities, ETFs, treasuries, currencies, and metals, mapping every mint that represents each one and ranking them to answer which mint to use for a given asset.

The public repo includes the Next.js 16 frontend, a roughly 20-endpoint Assets API, Postgres database schema, and Terraform infrastructure definitions, built on ClickHouse, Redis, and Clerk, though full self-hosting documentation is still in progress.

More than 90 integrators already pull from the API, including Phantom, Titan, and DFlow.

Developers no longer have to guess which mint represents a given asset. They can pull the same canonical mapping straight from the API instead of building their own verification logic.

⚙️ Tools & Resources

MoneyGram Ramps - A Solana developer template that gives builders direct access to MoneyGram's global fiat on- and off-ramp infrastructure through a single API. It's listed among Solana's official developer templates for fiat onramp integrations.

Jetstreamer 0.7.0 - A high-throughput Solana ledger streaming tool from Anza, now shipping a TUI for tracking progress and thread work-stealing for faster processing. The release also adds support for Old Faithful's new slot index format and hardens against Cloudflare R2 throttling.

ORE Starter App - An open-source starter app from Regolith Labs for building ORE mining clients. It gives builders a base for custom mining clients, new features, and UI experiments without starting from scratch.

Phoenix Private Prop MM Vault - A research prototype combining MagicBlock-style private capital intake with program-owned market making on Phoenix Perps built with a Pinocchio vault.

crypto-primitives-examples - A set of interactive Rust and TypeScript demos for the cryptographic primitives available on Solana, covering BN254, BLS12-381, ZK ElGamal, and a pending SHA-512 syscall. It includes a Pinocchio-based onchain program and React app with demos for each primitive.

💓 Ecosystem Pulse

🤝 WAVE gets acquired - The team bootstrapped WAVE and had over $5M in volume before handing it to an undisclosed team with more dev, social, and financial resources. The app and prediction terminal relaunch once the transition completes, rebranded and including a new parimutuel prediction protocol. Existing accounts and pools carry over unaffected, and the new team will introduce itself publicly in the coming weeks.

💀 Trepa shuts down - The prediction app never found product-market fit. Withdrawals stay open until September 30. Its own postmortem blames a core mechanic that needed a concurrent crowd in one daily window (1-2pm UTC) to pay out well, underperforming referrals and paid KOLs, and geographic restrictions and onramping friction that shrank the addressable crypto audience going in.

💀 Flash.Trade winds down - The bootstrapped perps DEX is seeking a buyer for its tech stack, brand, and IP. The founder cited deep team misalignment, a shrinking market, and exhaustion from running the exchange without much profit, worsened by a recent minor exploit. He also said he felt Solana Foundation support was concentrated on one favored competing team, though he called that his own emotional read rather than a confirmed account.

Brennan Watt, CEO of Anza, breaks down a set of major performance upgrades coming to Solana. He gets into the 200 millisecond slot time shift, a 10x reduction in rent costs, and the protocol changes underneath both.

The conversation traces how those changes ripple out to trading platforms, wallets, and other decentralized services built on Solana, and Watt draws on his own path from storage engineering into core blockchain infrastructure work. Worth it if you want the mechanics of the next network upgrade explained by the person building it.

Chase's pushback on "Solana Foundation kingmaking" argues attention follows traction, not favoritism. Does that match what you've seen trying to get noticed as a smaller team?
