GM! Colosseum is excited to host two upcoming events at Colosseum HQ in San Francisco.

On Thursday July 9th, we're hosting a Live Demo Night & Mixer. Our 5th Accelerator Cohort will pitch their startups and be joined by several YC teams and other top startups from the ecosystem.

Then on Friday July 10th, we're hosting a full-day MetaDAO Owners Meeting. This conference-style event will feature the MetaDAO team, founders that have ICO'd, founders that are considering an ICO, several top funds like Theia, DBA, and Paradigm, along with the father of futarchy himself - Robin Hanson.

Between these two events, we hope it's a worthwhile trip out to SF!

Here's what's featured in this week's issue:

  • The Solana Frontier Hackathon product directory is live
  • OtterSec takes stewardship of Anchor framework
  • Messari publishes its State of Solana Q1 2026 report
  • Solana releases the Ecosystem Roundup for April 2026
  • Realms freezes SPL Governance and spins off into Realms Lab

🏔️ Frontier Hackathon Directory

The project directory for the Frontier Hackathon is now live!

Frontier drew 2,857 submissions, ranking as the largest crypto hackathon ever held and one of the largest in tech history by submission count.

Winners and the next Colosseum Accelerator cohort will be announced in June 2026.

⚓ OtterSec Takes Over Anchor

Blockchain security firm OtterSec took over stewardship of Anchor, the most popular Solana program development framework, from the Solana Foundation.

OtterSec has been embedded in the Solana ecosystem for years through formal verification and security auditing work. The firm plans to keep Anchor security-forward while building out its own suite of verification tools alongside the framework.

💬
"Solana's ecosystem has been core to our work for years. Anchor has always been security-forward, and we're committed to keeping it that way for the developers who build on it." - OtterSec

Anchor recently hit v1.0.0, and OtterSec has been actively publishing security advisories, with patches like anchor-lang 1.0.2 released to prevent panics and handle account deserialization issues.

Developers can track CLI enhancements and join OtterSec Anchor Discussions on the new otter-sec/anchor repo.

📊 Messari State of Solana Q1 2026

Messari published its State of Solana Q1 2026 report, capturing record onchain activity. The network hit an all-time-high 112.6M daily non-vote transactions (up 50% QoQ), averaged ~2.4M daily active addresses, and posted $342.2M in chain GDP.

Solana became the only major chain compatible with both Stripe's MPP and the x402 standard for autonomous agent payments, with roughly 15M onchain agent payment transactions logged in Q1.

Quicknode shipped an open-source package for agent-driven USDC payments, AgentMail introduced AI agent inbox creation using x402, and the Solana Foundation partnered with Quantu AI in March to launch an onchain Agent Registry providing verifiable identity for AI agents.

The Solana Foundation and Colosseum hosted the AI Agent Hackathon where agents wrote all of the project code. The event drew 454 submissions across five tracks for a $100K USDC prize pool. Colosseum then shipped Copilot in March, a product for using agents to support startup building.

Firedancer went live on mainnet in December 2025, with network-wide adoption targeting 50%+ stake by Q2-Q3 2026. Alpenglow consensus (Votor + Rotor) hit testnet at Breakpoint and is on track for Q1-Q2 mainnet activation, replacing Tower BFT and PoH to cut finality from ~12.8 seconds to 150 ms.

The full report goes deeper on top revenue apps (Pump.fun, Axiom, Phantom, Jupiter), perp DEX activity, REV, validator economics, and DePIN, among other topics.

🌐 Solana Ecosystem Roundup: April 2026

The Solana Foundation published its April 2026 roundup, capturing a month of payments expansion, agent infrastructure, and protocol milestones.

The Solana Foundation joined the x402 Foundation at the Linux Foundation, placing the open agent payment standard under neutral governance. Solana Agent Skills shipped a library of pre-built capabilities for AI agent integration.

Anchor v1.0.0 shipped as the first stable major release of the framework. A Firedancer audit competition opened with a $1M scaling reward pool to harden the new validator client before broader rollout.

The Solana Foundation launched STRIDE, which evaluates DeFi protocols and applies formal verification to programs with $100M+ TVL. SIRN (Solana Incident Response Network) was formed by Asymmetric Research, OtterSec, and Neodyme as founding members.

🗳️ Realms Goes Immutable

The Realms team announced that SPL Governance 3.1 will become immutable on July 1, completing the protocol's transition to fully decentralized governance infrastructure. The realms.today UI will be shut down on the same date.

DAOs affected should explore alternatives like custom frontends, multisigs, or emerging tools. The team has indicated they'll share options as they become available.

The current Realms team is spinning off into Realms Lab, a governance agency focused on innovation across the SPL Governance ecosystem. Initial work includes supporting launchpads like Crafts and Fair.club.

A separate group from the same team is focused on Ride, a conviction-based platform built on Sowellian Governance. The team cites higher participation on Ride and IslandCapital than traditional token-voting setups, and sees Sowellian Governance as a better way for DAOs to coordinate capital.
