🎟️ Colosseum SF Builder Station

Colosseum is opening its San Francisco office to a selected group of founders competing in the Crypto World's Fair hackathon. The hackathon runs online, and the Builder Station covers its final two weeks, September 28 to October 12.

Approved builders get a desk, a monitor, snacks, and 24/7 office access. Approval also comes with an automatic interview for Colosseum's next accelerator batch.

Applications go through the event page and require host approval.

📦 SBPFv3

Anza published a migration guide for SBPFv3, the bytecode format that will become the only version Solana accepts for new deployments. Around 17k upgradeable programs on mainnet will need a rebuild before the switch if they ever want to be upgraded.

The switch happens when SIMD-0500 activates, planned for Agave v4.4. From that point loader-v3 returns InvalidAccountData on any attempt to deploy, upgrade, or extend a program built for an older bytecode version. 

Programs already deployed will keep running.

SBPFv3 bundles three SIMDs:

• SIMD-0178 static syscalls
• SIMD-0189 stricter ELF headers
• SIMD-0377 eBPF instruction set compatibility

For most teams the migration is one rebuild on an updated toolchain. The minimums are platform-tools v1.56, which ships Rust 1.89.0 and LLVM 20, cargo-build-sbf v4.2.0, and solana-define-syscall v3.0.0.

Moving to cargo-build-sbf v4.2.0 matters on its own, since it catches unresolved symbol errors at build time instead of letting the deploy succeed and then fail at runtime. 

Anza suggests confirming the result with readelf, where a migrated program reports CPU Version 3, then testing on Mollusk, LiteSVM, Surfpool, or Anchor before the upgrade goes out. The buffalojoec/hello-sbpfv3 repo walks through the whole sequence.

Jacob Creech published a review of the reliability work behind the network's current uptime run, which has held since February 2024. It now carries $17.5 billion in stablecoins and more than $4 billion in real-world assets, and settles more daily transactions than all other major blockchains combined.

The most recent incident hit on August 12, 2026, when a routing failure at TeraSwitch took roughly 29% of the network stake offline. Block production never stopped. Recovery took a little over 30 minutes, and no users saw an impact. Operators have since cut TeraSwitch's share of hosted stake from 38% to under 30%.

Other changes and milestones in the review:

• Stake-weighted quality of service, which changed how validators handle transaction ingestion
• A central scheduler redesign, shipped in Agave v1.18
• Slot times down to 300ms, with 200ms targeted next
• Storage costs dropping 90%
• The network's first sustained 5,000 TPS
• Alpenglow on track for mainnet, which would bring finality to 150ms

That dedication has given users, builders, and founders a chain that has proven its commitment to resilience, and being the fastest, most-used, and highest-revenue generating blockchain.
